Kundalini and Yin Yoga with Lila Cristine
Nordic Kundalini Yoga is a dynamic and meditative practice that weaves together breathwork, movement, meditation and mantra in a conscious flow. Rooted in the Kundalini tradition, it has grown into a more nurturing form that gives equal space to both strength and restoration.
Between energising sequences, there is time for stillness, deep rest and integration. The senses are gently awakened with aromatherapy, sound and healing energies. Each breath, movement and meditation opens the way to greater awareness, acceptance and connection.
This practice is open to everyone, whatever your age, background or level of experience. You do not need to be flexible or strong, only willing to explore at your own pace. Nordic Kundalini offers a path to vitality, dignity and heart-centred courage, inviting you to meet yourself fully in body, soul and spirit.

Boris is from Santiago, Chile, and first started practising Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in 2000. In 2002 he began training in different massage therapies, studying Ayurvedic massage in Mysore (India). He returned to India many more times to continue specialising in Ayurvedic massage and for additional yoga training.
His love of bodywork led him to later study different massage techniques across the world including Chuaka and Body Harmony in Santiago (Chile), Sports Massage in Atlanta (USA), Traditional Thai and Thai Oil Massage in Chiang Mai (Thailand).
With this extensive background, Boris has developed his own intuitive massage technique which unlocks one’s energies through a physical therapy acting on the skeletal structure, muscle and tissue. The result is to liberate fears and burdens that are held inside the physical body, allowing it to recover its natural flexibility and resulting in pain relief and relaxation.

From London, Philippa is one of the very few Ashtanga practitioners worldwide and the only British woman to be certified by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois to teach the method in his tradition. She learned the Primary, Intermediate, Advanced A and Advanced B series directly with Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois at the Krishna Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore. Today she shares the system internationally in studios, on retreats and online with Sanskrit-counted led classes and one-to-ones.
A vocational ballet training from the age of twelve led to twenty-five years studying and teaching dance at universities and companies across the UK. A chance Ashtanga class in London changed everything. From the late 1990s, Philippa practised daily before work in film, media and music, returning to Mysore for several months each year to study with her teachers.
In 2006 she established and ran Triyoga Soho’s Ashtanga self-practice programme, teaching there for five years before moving to South India to build her own shala, ASHTANGA NIRVRTA, on a coffee estate in the Western Ghats. Alongside Mysore-style guided self-practice and led classes at her shala, she leads workshops and residencies across London, Europe and the Middle East, plus retreats worldwide. When she is not in the studio, Philippa teaches online one-to-ones, Sanskrit-counted Primary, Intermediate and Advanced A, and pranayama.
Expect clarity, precision and warmth. Philippa teaches the method as it was given to her - steady, attentive and rooted in breath so you can practise safely, refine technique and feel progress that is both grounded and sustainable.
What you’ll experience with Philippa:
- Traditional Mysore-style guided self-practice
- Sanskrit-counted led classes with clear pacing
- Practical adjustments and technique for all levels
- Breath-centred focus, simple pranayama and quiet rest
- New to Advanced B Series Ashtanga yoga practitioners welcome
After a vocational ballet school training from age twelve and twenty-five years of studying and teaching dance at universities and ballet companies all over the UK, Philippa randomly walked into an Ashtanga yoga class in London. It was a life-changing incident, that made complete sense.
From the late 1990s, she began learning/practising the Ashtanga yoga system, daily before work (in the media, film, and music industries). For over twenty years she has studied for several months each year at KPJAYI (now called Sharath Yoga Centre) in Mysore and on tour, practising under the guidance of guru Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sharath Jois.
In 2006, Philippa established and ran Triyoga Soho’s Ashtanga self-practice programme in London. She taught there for five years before relocating to South India, to build her own shala (on a coffee estate in the Western Ghats).
As well as teaching Mysore-style Ashtanga guided self-practice, led classes and workshops at ASHTANGA NIRVRTA, Philippa also leads workshops and self-practice residencies at studios in London, Europe, Middle East and on retreats worldwide. When not in the studio, she teaches Online One-to-Ones and Sanskrit Counted Primary, Intermediate and Advanced A Series classes and pranayama.
Her approach to sharing yoga asana (from beginners to more seasoned practitioners) is serious, yet light-hearted and joyful. Her emphasis is on good technique, safe alignment, the synchronisation of vinyasa (Sanskrit-counted, coordinated moving/breathing sequences) with tristhana (alignment of breath, gaze points and movement), passing on the exact method as taught by Pattabhi Jois from the late 1990s and embracing the essence of Patanjali’s sutras on yoga and asana.
Philippa’s dedicated passion for Ashtanga yoga, background as a trained dancer and experience as a qualified teacher (Post Graduate Certificate in the Education of Adults), gives her an intuitive and sound understanding of bodies, yoga asanas, people and how they learn. For more information, please visit www.ashtangaphilippa.com
In Ulpotha for this retreat, Philippa will be offering:
- Daily Ashtanga guided self-practice
- Sanskrit-Counted Primary Series
- Afternoon workshops on asana technique, concepts of the method, body opening, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, Q&A etc
- New to Advanced B Series Ashtanga yoga practitioners welcome

Traditionally trained, ie in following a master yogi, Mika was first initiated by Baptiste Marceau (son of the famous French mime artist) to the art of Ashtanga (a dynamic form of yoga originally called Korunta). This led him to follow the path of a Hindu Swami yogi for several years in the Himalayas, even dwelling in a cave in Gangotree in order to gain insight into a more traditional and meditative style. Later on he was invited by Sharon Gannon to follow the Jivamukti teachings in New York. These teachings and many yogic travels and study led him to develop his own very particular style.
Vinyasa Krama with Mika de Brito
(Dynamic practice open to all levels)
We begin with breathing exercises on a metronomic sound in order to bring AIR into the body, then we slowly light the FIRE with sun salutations and the fire purifies the body by eliminating toxins through the WATER of sweat. These three éléments stabilise with contact to the EARTH, the asanas, the ground. Once all of these elements are united, then the fifth element ETHER can make its appearance through Meditation.
Connected to the present, open to the world around him and highly creative, Mika has brought this ancient tradition to his many students around the world. His demanding and yet playful approach has brought new life into the yogic discipline. He wants students to rid their minds of modern conditioning and adopt a liberating and compassionate practice, what he calls “being spiritual”, the fundamentals of which are to cultivate a good relationship with oneself, others and the world about us.
He lives in France and shares his time between performing music, writing and teaching yoga in retreats and workshops around the world.

Georgia is a highly qualified Iyengar Yoga teacher with more than 25 years of practice. She has lived and taught in Australia, England, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Brazil and now Portugal, where she is based. She holds Junior Intermediate Level 3 and has studied with senior Iyengar teachers worldwide, including periods of study in Pune with B. K. S. Iyengar, his daughter Geeta and his son Prashant.
Georgia understands the power of yoga to heal. Her teaching has a strong restorative and remedial focus, always meeting the individual needs of each student. The style is clear, calm and quietly encouraging, with alignment at the heart of every class.
At Ulpotha, mornings are active and precise. You will work safely into postures, learn how alignment supports freedom and finish feeling energised rather than strained. Evenings turn to restoration and tailored support, with time to address any personal concerns. Pranayama is included across the week.
Georgia believes the depth of yoga comes from a steady mind and honest self-observation. She brings warmth and humour to the room, and teaches both beginners and general level students. She is also a mother of three and practised throughout each pregnancy.
What you will experience with Georgia:
- Intelligent alignment that makes practice feel stable and spacious
- Restorative and remedial sequencing with thoughtful use of props
- Personalised guidance and practical modifications
- Pranayama to settle the nervous system
Her classes in Ulpotha will include active morning classes ensuring correct alignment within the pose, leaving you feeling energised and not strained, which is the hallmark of the Iyengar style. The evening classes will have a more restorative focus and giving a chance to focus on any individual issues you'd like addressed. Pranayama will also be included during the retreat.
While deeply understanding that the depth of yoga comes with focusing the mind and learning the art of self observation and reflection, she manages to teach the asanas with joy and humour. She teaches both beginner and general levels. She has three children and practiced yoga through all pregnancies.

In this special retreat we will practice daily yoga moving with the Elements and, on every other afternoon, we will use free ecstatic dance practices to embody the philosophy of yoga in a free and dynamic way. Using great world music to support you to let go and find your own groove. You will be amazed by how much this supports your yoga practice and deepens your ability to meditate.
Malaika incorporates her work as a dancer, Spiritual Healer, and more than 12 years as a bodyworker to help her students find flow, grace and healing to injuries. She fully embodies the deeper philosophy of yoga as a marriage between mind, body and spirit and teaches both in the yoga shala and in natural environments.
She brings a wealth of earth wisdom for personal and planetary awakening having walked the shamanic path for a lifetime. She is dedicated to creating sacred space in ritual and ceremony to help restore balance to our distorted civilized culture. A qualified ISHTA yoga teacher, Water Dance practitioner, African dance performer and teacher, creatrix of 5Elements Dance Activation™ a shamanic dynamic meditation dance journey embodying the five cardinal elements, earth water fire air and spirit. She is also the founder of Journey to the Heart, and Elemental Embodiment™, 5-day transformational retreats for men and women. She has been facilitating groups for more than 25 years in India, Australia, Africa, China, USA, Costa Rica, Europe and Egypt. She offers a spirituality that is rooted in the body to access higher realms of consciousness. She is currently teaching Elemental Yoga and Yin Yoga at the Barn in Bali.
At Ulpotha, Malaika will be offering her Elemental ISHTA (Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra, and Ayurveda) Yoga classes which provide a blend of ancient and contemporary teachings to cater to your individual needs. Focusing on flow, alignment, body awareness and expansion to cultivate grace, she will encourage you to respect and listen to your own body using a holistic approach to yoga as a way of being.
What to expect:
- Pranayama and visualisation to purify and quiet the mind
- Daily yoga and asana to stretch, strengthen and balance the body (firstly Hatha flow yoga based on the elements and, in the second week, focussing on the connection of Yoga to the Chakra system)
- Daily dance to reconnect mind, body and spirit and celebrate the gift of life using 5Elements Dance Activation™ and Ecstatic Dance
- Meditation to expand your awareness and cultivate loving compassion for yourself and others
Her teachings are suitable for beginners and intermediate levels and dance is a crucial part of this workshop.

Eva with a cup
Through her love of helping people to heal themselves she completed all 7 levels of Ka Huna massage and bodywork training at High Spirits Institute in Australia and has been working as a Ka Huna body worker since 2010. She has established various massage sanctuaries in Australia and Germany and now works from her home in Mullumbimby - nestled in the rainbow region in the northern rivers area of Australia.
She also specialises in foot reflexology, deep belly abdominal massage and emotional release techniques which she integrates into her massages. Her recent training in Somatic Experiencing (trauma informed massage) is accredited by the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute established by Dr.Peter Levine.
In addition to her professional western training at various institutes, Eva also spent time learning traditional healing methods in Mayan villages in Guatemala, sacred places in the Amazon and in secluded huts in the Australian bush.
Ka Huna massage is not just an ordinary massage but an experience that leaves the body, mind and spirit feeling whole, connected, energised and at the same time deeply relaxed. Her clients often describe it as “something special happens during the massage that is hard to describe”, “ Afterwards I feel like floating”, “ I feel connected to something deep inside”.
Eva uses organic coconut oil and massages with long flowing strokes using her hands and forearms, sometimes underneath and on top of the body at the same time, while she moves with dance-like steps around the massage table.
Ka Huna massage comes from the Hawaiian shamanic tradition and Eva combines her “seeing hands” with her open heart and intuitive grounded presence and years of experience. She is very confident to hold space for you in a safe environment.
Each bodywork session is uniquely adapted to who you are at that moment.

Yin & Yang Yoga with Olivia Clarke
Morning yoga sessions begin slowly and mindfully, attuning to body, heart and mind while resting in the natural surroundings of Ulpotha and in the shared community of practice. Olivia draws on the Triple Gem of Buddha, Dharma and Sangha as inspiration, weaving them into a blend of Yin and Yang Yoga. Long-held floor postures support the meridians and organ health, while Yang sequences bring energy and strength. You will be invited to ground yourself, to work from the earth up, and to let Yin lead the Yang through mindfulness and compassion.
Afternoons turn to Yin Yoga and Meditation. Together you'll explore meditation in its four postures: sitting, lying down, standing and walking. Olivia shares Buddha Dharma in a way that is earthy, clear and accessible, encouraging mindfulness to move beyond the mat and into everyday life.
This yoga retreat is suited to those who value a slower, quieter rhythm of practice. It is less about the gymnastics of yoga and more about creating a supportive space for life, path and practice that feels sustainable and nourishing. The focus is on conserving energy, cultivating chi and building a practice that can support you with steadiness and resilience in the midst of modern life.
