What Our Guests Say
Claire Foster - November 2025
Flo’s classes are not just yoga classes. There are layers to her teaching. She takes you on a journey, Whether through the chakras or the elements. She seems to know your capabilities early on and can adapt the class to your needs. She encompasses sound healing with her restoration class but will push you with her flow so you feel like you’ve worked hard.
She’s on hand to chat to you about all levels of yoga, massage, Ayurvedic lifestyle and aromatherapy healing. We had a special cacao full moon ceremony with angel cards and meditation. It was amazing. I feel restored, relaxed and powerful.

Ulpotha is a magical place for the body, mind, and soul. Having had a wonderful getaway holiday here to refresh myself, I found that I reconnected with my body's natural rhythm within two days, and felt rejuvenated by the incredible landscape and the fresh, organic food.
My favourite part of the property is the lake, where swimming or paddling can be enjoyed in the mornings or afternoons. The property is in a part of the country that is dry and hot, and there is something exciting about this kind of wilderness, and I loved exploring and going on walks, watching the monkeys, squirrels, or peacocks as they roamed around. We even had a sighting of elephants, which delighted everyone to no end.
The huts are open and rustic, and I appreciated the simplicity, where one could connect back to the earth. With no distraction, I could just be, enjoying my time in a space that felt almost like it was from another century.

I came for a retreat, but I left with a completely renewed spirit....

The Ulpotha Story
For three decades, Ulpotha has become quietly known as a serene place for yoga and Ayurveda. Its beginnings were different. The founders set out to create a private holiday estate with a purpose: to explore a traditional way of living in close relationship with the land. That experiment shaped everything you see today: hand-built mud-and-adobe huts, reforestation, and the careful revival of ancient irrigation tanks. Organic farming and daily life guided by the seasons. To remain self-sustaining, Ulpotha is open for part of the year to paying visitors. What began as a living experiment has grown naturally into a place where people come to rest, practise, and reconnect with something real. The following is the story of Ulpotha's serendipitous beginning, as told by one of the founders, Viren Perera. The origin and ideals of Ulpotha, before yoga and Ayurveda became an integral part of its story.
